語源
「nonconformal」は英語で、否定接頭辞「non-」（もともとはラテン語の 'non'、意味は「〜でない」）と形容詞「conformal」（ラテン語 'conformare' に由来し、「con-：共に」「formare：形作る」）から成る語である。
「nonconformal」は近代英語で「conformal」に接頭辞「non-」を付けて作られた語で、もともとはラテン語 'conformare' を経由して中英語／古フランス語から英語に入った「conformal」に由来する。
当初は文字通り「共形でない（形が一致しない）」という意味だったが、時間とともに（角度を保存しない等の）技術的用法や（規範に従わない等の）一般的用法の両方で用いられるようになった。
