語源
「conformal」は動詞『conform』に形容詞語尾『-al』が付いた語で、語源はラテン語『conformare』の「一緒に（con-）＋形を作る（formare）」。
『conformal』はラテン語『conformare』→古フランス語/中英語の『conformer』などを経て、中英語の『conform』に『-al』が付いて現代英語の『conformal』になった。
当初は「一緒の形にする（合わせる）」という意味だったが、次第に「形が一致する」という形容詞的意味や、数学の保角性や工学の密着性などの専門的な意味に発展した。
