語源
『mat』（光沢のない）の意は古フランス語の『mat』に由来し、『鈍い・押し潰された』などの意味があった。複合語『mat-finished』は現代英語で形容詞'mat'と過去分詞形容詞'finished'を組み合わせてできた。
