語源
「gynandry」は新ラテン語／近代の学術造語に由来し、最終的にはギリシャ語の要素「gynē」と「anēr（an-／andros）」にさかのぼる。ここで「gyn-」は「女・雌」を、「andr-」は「男・雄」を意味する。
「gynandry」は19世紀の生物学文献で新ラテン語の「gynandria」として形成され、雄と雌の特徴や器官が結合した状態を表すために英語に借用された。
