語源
「gravure」はフランス語の単語「gravure」に由来し、動詞「graver」は「彫る・刻む（彫刻する）」を意味した。
19世紀に英語に借用され、凹版印刷技術を指す語として用いられるようになった。その後英語で 'print' と組み合わされ 'gravure-printed' のような複合語が作られた。
