語源
『euploid』はギリシャ語由来の結合形『eu-』（「良い、正常な」）と語根『ploid』（ギリシャ語の『ploïdēs』（「折（り）/倍」などの意））から生じ、ニューラテン語を経て生物学用語として成立した。
『euploid』はギリシャ語由来の接頭辞『eu-』と接尾辞『-ploid』を組み合わせた科学的ニューラテン語として造語され、20世紀に現代科学英語へ定着した。
当初は「良い／正常な＋折り（倍）」という構成的意味合いだったが、次第に「ハプロイド数の正確な整数倍の染色体数を持つこと」という生物学的な限定的意味に発展した。
