「disappoint」は古フランス語の「desappointer」から来ており，「des-」は「逆（戻す）／取り消す」を，『apointer』は「任命する／指定する」を意味した
「desappointer」は中英語の「disapointen」に変わり，最終的に現代英語の「disappoint」になった
