語源
「develop」はフランス語の単語「développer」（現代フランス語「développer」）に由来し、接頭辞「dé-」は「逆・ほどく」を意味し、語根の「velop/voloper」（古フランス語「desveloper/voloper」から）は「包む・巻く」を意味した。
「develop」は古フランス語の「desveloper」（「ほどく、巻を解く」）から変化し、中英語の「developen」のような語形を経て現代英語の「develop」になった。
