語源
「degreasing」は現代英語に由来し、動詞「degrease」(接頭辞『de-』＋『grease』)からできた語。接頭辞『de-』はラテン語由来で「取り除く・逆転」を意味し、『grease』は古英語の「grǣs」で「脂・油」を意味した。
動詞「degrease」は中世以降の英語でラテン語系の接頭辞『de-』と英語固有語『grease』（古英語『grǣs』）が結びついて作られ、そこから動名詞・分詞形の「degreasing」が派生した。
