語源
「cannibalize」は、接尾辞「-ize」を「cannibal」に付けて作られた英語の語形成に由来します。接尾辞「-ize」は（ギリシャ語・ラテン語・フランス語を経て）「…する／…化する」の動詞化を示します。
「cannibalize」は現代英語で「cannibal」（スペイン語の caníbal、コロンブスの記録にある「Canibales」に由来）と動詞化接尾辞「-ize」を結合して形成されました。「cannibal」は人肉を食べる民族の記述から英語に入った語です。
