語源
「burl」は中英語の「burle」または「bourl」（異形）に由来し、ざらついた突起を表す「burr」と関連があると思われるが、より古い起源は不確かである。
「burl」は中英語の「burle/bourl」から変化し、現代英語の「burl」となり、意味は木の瘤やそこから得られる木材に限定されていった。
