語源
「bandy」は中英語（16世紀）に由来し、元は「曲げる」を意味する古ノルド語 'benda' や、打つ・結ぶことに関連するアンゴ＝ノルマン／古フランス語の語形の影響を受けたと考えられる。英語で『行き来させる』という現代の動詞的用法が発達した。
中英語の語形（例：'bandien'／'bandy(en)')は打つ・曲げるといった意味で使われ、その後変化して現代英語の動詞 'bandy'（言葉や考えを行き来させる）になった。
