語源
「backhandedness」は英語に由来し、形容詞'backhanded'(backhand + -ed)に名詞化接尾辞'-ness'をつけて作られた語。'backhand'は'back'（背）＋'hand'（手）の複合語である。
'backhand'は古英語の要素'bæc'（背）と'hand'（手）の結合に由来し、もともとは手の裏側で行う打撃を意味した。のちにスポーツで利き手とは反対側の打ち方を指すようになり、形容詞的・比喩的用法（遠回し・不誠実の意味）も生じ、最後に'-ness'を付けて'backhandedness'になった。
