アスペルギルスによる病気
語源
「aspergillosis」は新ラテン語に由来し、属名「Aspergillus」とギリシャ語の接尾辞「-osis」（疾病状態）を組み合わせた語である。
「Aspergillus」は18世紀に菌の胞子塊が礼拝用の散水器『aspergillum』に似ていることから菌類学者ピエール・アントニオ・ミケーリによって命名された。後にその属名に接尾辞「-osis」を付けて『aspergillosis』（アスペルギルス症）が作られた。
もともと『aspergillum』は『散布器』を意味していたが、形状にちなむ属名『Aspergillus』が作られ、『aspergillosis』は『Aspergillusによる病気』を意味するようになり、現在もその医学的な意味で用いられている。
