語源
「aromatical」はラテン語の「aromaticus」に由来し，さらにギリシャ語の「arōmatikos」からで，「arōma」は「香辛料」や「良い香り」を意味した。
「aromatical」は中英語の「aromaticall」から変化し（ラテン語や古フランス語を経由），現代英語の形「aromatical」になった（現在は稀で，主に'aromatic'が用いられる）。
当初は「芳香性の物質に関する／香りを持つ」を意味したが，時間とともにより簡潔な「aromatic」が一般化し，「aromatical」は稀・古風な語となった。
