語源
「arbitraments」はラテン語の「arbitramentum」から来ており、ここで「arbiter」は「判定者（裁定者）」を意味し、接尾辞「-mentum」は「道具・結果」を示した。
「arbitramentum」は古フランス語の「arbitrement」を経て中英語の「arbitraiment」/「arbitrament」となり、最終的に現代英語の「arbitrament」（複数形「arbitraments」/「arbitraments」）に至った。
当初は「判定する行為・判定の手段」を意味していたが、次第に「仲裁による決定・裁定」を指すように意味が特化した。
