語源
「apocarp」はニューラテン語の「apocarpus」に由来し、最終的にはギリシャ語の「apókarpos」から来ている。ここで 'apo-' は「離れている／分かれた」を意味し、'karpos' は「果実」を意味する。
ギリシャ語の「apókarpos」が植物学ラテン語の「apocarpus」として採用され、19世紀に専門用語として英語の「apocarp」に借用された。
元々は「分離した（離れた）果実」を意味しており、現在でも複合果ではなく分離した心皮やそれから生じる果実を指す植物学的な意味を保持している。
