語源
「aphorise」はギリシャ語の『aphorizō』（ἀφορίζω）に由来し、『apo-』（〜から、離れて）と『horizein』（境界を定める、区切る）から成る。
中世ラテン語の『aphorizare』やフランス語の『aphoriser』を経て、現代英語の『aphorise/aphorize』になった。
もともとは「境界を定める、分ける」という意味だったが、次第に「短く簡潔に述べる（警句化する）」という現在の意味に変化した。
