語源
「antiscion」はギリシャ語の「antískion」から来ており、「anti-」は「反対」、「skia」は「影」を意味した。
「antískion」は中世・近世の占星術文献でラテン語化（例：'antiscion'／複数形 'antiscia'）され、17世紀〜18世紀に専門用語として英語に入った。
当初は文字通り「反対の影」を意味したが、次第に占星術上の「夏至・冬至軸に関する鏡像的対称点」という専門的意味に変化した。
