語源
「antiptosis」はギリシャ語の『ἀντίπτωσις』に由来し、『ἀντί-』は「反対／～に対して」、『πτῶσις』は「落ちること（落下）」を意味した。
『antiptosis』はギリシャ語からラテン語・中世ラテン語の『antíptōsis』を経て、学術用語として英語に取り入れられた。
元々はギリシャ語で「反対に落ちること」のような文字通りの意味だったが、時代とともに専門的な修辞的意味「格の置換（文法上の格の転置）」へと変化した。
