語源
「antipasto」はイタリア語に由来し、イタリア語の'ankipasto'（※原語は'anti-'＝前、'pasto'＝食事）に由来する。'pasto'はラテン語'pāstus'（食べること）に関係する語根から来ている。
『antipasto』は19世紀後半から20世紀初頭にかけてイタリア語から英語に入った。イタリア語の複数形は' antipiasti'（antipasti）だが、英語では規則的な複数形の'antipastos'も使われるようになった。
