語源
「anting」は名詞 'ant' と接尾辞 '-ing'（動名詞・動作を表す接尾辞）から成り、『アリを使う行為』を意味する。
『ant』は古英語の語『ǣmete（æmete/ amete）』に由来し、昆虫としての『アリ』を指した。中英語を経て現代英語の 'ant' になり、そこに '-ing' が付いて『anting』が作られた。
元々は単に昆虫の『アリ』を意味していたが、派生語『anting』は鳥がアリを利用する特有の行動を指すようになった。
