語源
「anti-humanism」は接頭辞「anti-」（ギリシャ語 'antí'、「〜に対して」）と「humanism」（ラテン語 'humanitas' に由来しルネサンス期に発展した「人間中心・人間性の重視」）の結合でできている。
「humanism」はラテン語『humanitas』に由来しルネサンス思想で発展した。『anti-humanism』という複合語は近現代の知的議論の中（特に20世紀中葉のマルクス主義・ポスト構造主義）で生じ、アルチュセールやフーコーらによって知られるようになった。
