『anthropomorphosis』はギリシャ語起源で、特に『anthrōpos』（「人間」）と『morphōsis』（「形づくること」）から来ている。
『anthropomorphosis』はギリシャ語の語根を用いた学術的な新ラテン語／近代英語の造語で、人間の形や性質を与える概念を表すために英語に入った。
