語源
「anthropomantic」はギリシャ語の語『anthrōpomanteia』に由来し、『anthrōpos』は「人間」を、『manteia』は「占い」を意味した。
『anthrōpomanteia』は中世ラテン語の『anthropomantia／anthropomantia』に移り、英語では名詞『anthropomancy』として入り、後に形容詞を作る接尾辞'-ic'が付いて『anthropomantic』になった。
当初は人間を用いる占術（しばしば人身供犠や内臓検査など）を指していたが、次第に「人間占術に関する／それに関する様子」という形容詞的な用法に落ち着いた。
