語源
「antae」はラテン語の『anta』（複数形 antae）に由来し、さらに古代ギリシア語の『ἀντή』（antē）から借用されたもので、その語根は「前面」や「（壁の）端」を意味した。
『anta』は古代ギリシア語の『ἀντή』から変化してラテン語の『anta』（複数形 antae）になり、後に英語の建築用語として採用され、複数形の『antae』もそのまま用いられるようになった。
