語源
英語の『anorexia』はギリシャ語『anorexia（ἀνορεξία）』に由来し、接頭辞の『an-』は「～なし」、『orexis』は「食欲・欲求」を意味した。
『anorexia』は新ラテン語・医学ラテン語の『anorexia』を経て英語に入り、19世紀に医学用語として定着して現代英語の『anorexia』になった。
当初は一般的に「食欲の喪失」を意味したが、次第に臨床的な障害である『神経性食欲不振症（拒食症）』を指す用法に専門化した。
