語源
「ankyloglossia」は新ラテン語・医学用語として発祥し、最終的にはギリシャ語の『ankylos』（曲がった・こわばった）と『glōssa』（舌）に由来する。
『ankylos』＋『glōssa』というギリシャ語要素から新ラテン語／医学用語として作られ、『ankyloglossia』という形で英語に入った。
元々は「曲がった・こわばった舌」を指したが、現代の医学英語では特に舌小帯が短縮または制限される先天的状態（舌タイ）を意味するようになった。
