語源
「anhematosis」はギリシャ語の「an-（〜がない）」と「haîma（血）」に、状態を表す新ラテン語の接尾辞「-osis」が結びついた語に由来する。
ギリシャ語要素から新ラテン語の医学用語として形成され、英語の医学語彙に学術語として入った（hemo-/haemo-系の語と並行して成立）。
当初は「血がない状態」を意味し、その意味はほぼ保たれたが、現代では「anemia（貧血）」が一般的となり、使用頻度は低下した。
