語源
「Tripleurospermum」は近代ラテン語（植物学ラテン語）に由来し、ギリシャ語の要素「tri-（3）」「pleuron（側・肋）」「sperma（種子）」を組み合わせている。
『Tripleurospermum』はギリシャ語語根を組み合わせて近代の植物学命名として作られ、現在この属に入る種のいくつかは以前は『Matricaria』などに分類されていた。
もともとは「3本の肋のある種子」という文字通りの特徴を表していたが、やがて植物の属名として定着した。
