語源
「Syriac」はギリシャ語に由来し、具体的には語『Syriakós』(Συριακός) に由来します。接尾辞『-akos』は「〜に関する」を意味し、「Syria」は古代の地域を指しました。
『Syriac』は後期ラテン語の『Syriacus』を経て、中世ラテン語の『Syriacus』となり、さらに古フランス語や中英語を通って現代英語の『Syriac』になりました。
