語源
「Shorea」は英語、具体的には（Sir）John Shoreの姓 'Shore' に由来し、植物学上の学名としてラテン語化された 'Shorea' である。
『Shorea』は18世紀末〜19世紀初頭にかけて記念的学名としてラテン語化され、姓 'Shore' に語尾 '-ea' を付けて属名とされた。その後、学術用語として確立し、さらに一般英語でも属名やその木材を指す語として定着した。
