語源
「Gynandria」は新ラテン語・ギリシャ語の語形成に由来し、ギリシャ語の語根「gynē（女性）」と「andros（男性）」から成る。
「Gynandria」は18世紀ごろのリンネ式分類などで植物学用語として導入された造語で、派生語としてランの融合した花器官を指す「gynandrium（柱）」がある。
元来は「雌と雄」を文字どおり合わせた意味だったが、時代とともに主に植物学で雄しべと雌しべが結合した状態や構造を指す専門用語として定着した。
