語源
「Eastertide」は古英語の要素に由来する：『Easter』（古英語の『ēastre/ēostre』）と『tide』（古英語の『tīd』）で、『ēastre/ēostre』は春の祭り（復活祭）を指し、『tīd』は「時間・季節」を意味した。
『Eastertide』は中英語で『Easter』＋『tide』の合成語として発展（中英語では『Eastre-tīd』『Ester-tide』のように綴られ）、最終的に現代英語の『Eastertide』になった。
当初は単に「復活祭の時間・季節」を示しており、時を経てもその中心的な意味は保たれ、典礼的な用法と一般的・詩的な用法の両方で用いられている。
