語源
「Easter」は古英語に由来し、特に語形『Ēastre』や『Ēostre』に由来します。原ゲルマン語の'*austrōn'（印欧語根*h₂ews-は「輝く、夜明け」を意味）に関連し、夜明け・日の出を指していました。
『Easter』は古英語の『Ēastre／Ēostre』（ベーダが記録した春の祭りや女神の名）から変化し、最終的に現代英語の『Easter』になりました。
もともとは異教の春の女神やその祭りの名を指しましたが、時代を経てイエスの復活を祝うキリスト教の祝祭の名称へと変化しました。
