「Antiochian」は後期ラテン語の語『Antiochianus』に由来し、そこでは『Antiochia』が「アンティオキア（都市）」を意味した。
『Antiochian』は後期ラテン語の『Antiochianus』（ラテン語『Antiochia』、最終的にギリシャ語『Ἀντιόχεια』に由来）から変化し、現在の英単語『Antiochian』になった。
