語源
「unscriptural」は英語に由来し、否定の接頭辞「un-」（「〜でない」）と「scriptural」から成る。『scriptural』は後期ラテン語の 'scriptura'（「書かれたもの」「文書」）に由来する。
『scriptural』は後期ラテン語の 'scriptura' から古フランス語（escriture / scripture）を経て中英語の 'scripture'・形容詞 'scriptural' になり、現代英語では接頭辞 'un-' を付けて 'unscriptural' が作られた。
もともとは「書かれたもの・文書」に関する語だったが、やがて『（宗教的な）聖典』を指すようになり、'unscriptural' は「その聖典に従わない・反する」という意味になった。
