語源
'unindexed'は否定接頭辞'un-'と'index'から成る。'un-'は「～でない／逆の」を意味する英語の接頭辞で、'index'はラテン語'index'（「指し示すもの、しるし」）に由来する。
'index'はラテン語'index'（動詞'indicare'「指し示す」の派生）に由来し、古フランス語や中世ラテン語を経て中英語の'index'／'indice'になった。中で英語の生産的接頭辞'un-'が付いて'unindex'、および過去分詞'unindexed'が作られた。
元は「指し示すもの／指標」を意味し、その後「一覧、目録」を指すようになった。'un-'を付けることで「索引に入っていない／索引から外された」という意味になった。
