語源
「uncounted」は英語で、否定接頭辞「un-」と過去分詞「counted」を組み合わせた語で、'un-'は「〜でない」、'count'は「数える、計算する」を意味した。
「count」は古フランス語の'conter'（数える、語る）に由来し、最終的にはラテン語の'computare'（'com-' 一緒に + 'putare' 思う、計算する）にまで遡る。中英語で過去分詞形'counted'ができ、否定形として 'un-' が付いて 'uncounted' になった。
当初は「計算に入れられていない、集計されていない」を意味していたが、次第に「数え切れないほど多い」という意味も帯びるようになった。
