語源
「twin-core」は近代英語の複合語で、'twin'（対になった、2重の）と'core'（中心部分、核）から成り、コンピュータ分野では処理コアを指す語として使われるようになった。
'twin'は古英語'twin(n)'（原ゲルマン語*twi-に由来、2重を意味）に遡り、'core'はラテン語'cor'（もともと「心臓」）が古フランス語を経て中英語'core'となった。技術英語で両語が結び付いて'twin-core'が生まれた。
もともとは「対になった中心部分」を指していたが、コンピュータ用語として「2つの処理コアを持つ構成」を指すように意味が特化した。
