語源
「threadworm」は現代英語の複合語で、語源は「thread」と「worm」。「thread」は「細い糸」を意味し、「worm」は「無脊椎の動物／這う生き物」を意味した。
「thread」は古英語の「þræd」（中英語で「thred」）に由来し、「worm」は古英語の「wyrm」に由来する。これらを組み合わせて「threadworm」という語が作られた。
