語源
「systematics」は新ラテン語・フランス語の形成から派生し、最終的にギリシャ語の「systema」（「一緒に」を意味する接頭辞と「配置・構成」を表す語根に由来）に基づく。
「systematics」は中世・近代のラテン語'systematicus'やフランス語'systématique'を経て英語の'adjective: systematic'や名詞の'systematics'になった。
当初は「体系・方法に関する」という意味だったが、次第に「（特に生物学における）分類と関係の科学的研究」という専門的な意味へ変化した。
