語源
「switchboard」は現代英語に由来し、単語 'switch'（接続を切り替える装置・動作）と 'board'（盤・板）を組み合わせた複合語である。
19世紀後半、電話技術の発展に伴って 'switch' と 'board' を組み合わせて作られた。最初は一般的なスイッチのある盤を指し、電話交換盤の意味で使われるようになった。
