語源
「snapdragon」は英語に由来する語で、複合語「snap-dragon」から来ている。'snap'は素早いはじくような動作や噛む動作を指し、'dragon'は竜（花の二つに分かれた口の形に由来）を指す。
「snapdragon」は近代英語初期にハイフン付きの「snap-dragon」として現れ、花と遊びの両方を指した。時間とともにハイフンが外れ、現代英語の単語「snapdragon」になった。
