語源
「righting」は英語に由来し、動詞「right」に動名詞・現在分詞を作る接尾辞「-ing」が付いた形である。
「right」は古英語の「riht」から来ており、ゲルマン祖語 '*rehtaz'（「真っ直ぐ・正しい」の意味）に由来する。中英語を経て現代英語の 'right' となり、接尾辞 '-ing' が付いて 'righting' が生じた。
もともとは「まっすぐ・正しい」を指したが、意味は「正す」「正当化する」「（物を）直立させる」といった現在の用法へと変化した。
