語源
「prude」はフランス語、具体的には女性形の「prude」から来ており、古フランス語の語根「prud」は「慎重な／立派な」を意味し（ラテン語の「probus」＝「良い・誠実な」から派生）ました。
「prude」は古フランス語の「prud」「prude」から変化し、16せいき後半までに英語に借用され、現代英語の「prude」として定着しました。
当初は「立派で慎み深い」という意味でしたが、時を経て現在の「（特に性的なことに関して）過度に慎み深い・当惑しやすい人」という意味に変化しました。
