語源
「prosody」はギリシャ語の単語「prosōidía」に由来し、「pros-」は「〜へ」を、「ōidē」は「歌」を意味しました。
「prosōidía」はラテン語の「prosodia」を経て、古フランス語の「prosodie」、中英語の「prosody」へと移り変わりました。
当初は「音楽に合わせて歌われる歌」を意味しましたが、時間とともに「話し言葉や詩におけるリズム・強勢・イントネーションのパターン」という現在の意味に発展しました。
