「physiologist」は近代ラテン語・ギリシャ語に由来し、ニューレイテン語の『physiologia』およびギリシャ語の語根『physis』（自然）と『logos』（学び・研究）から来ており、動作主を表す接尾辞『-ist』（〜を行う人）が付いたものです。
