語源
「parhelion」はギリシャ語、特に語「παρήλιον」に由来し、「para-」は「そば（～のそば）」を、「helios」は「太陽」を意味した。
「parhelion」はギリシャ語「παρήλιον」に基づくネオラテン／中世ラテン語の用法から変化し、科学・気象用語として英語に導入された。
当初は「太陽のそば（にあるもの）」という文字どおりの意味だったが、時間とともに「偽の太陽を生じさせる大気光学現象」を指す現在の意味に発展した。
