語源
「neutrocyte」はニューラテン語・近代の造語に由来し、接頭辞 'neutro-' はラテン語 'neuter'（どちらでもない・中性を意味）から、接尾辞 '-cyte' はギリシャ語 'kytos'（容器・細胞）から来ている。
医学用語として古典語素を結合して作られた語で、同時期に 'neutrophil'（'neutro-' + '-phil'）も出現した。臨床用語としては 'neutrophil' の方が一般化し、'neutrocyte' はやや古い・稀な異形として残った。
